Post Class Blogging
A secret source told us we only got A's in this class cuz we were sexy as hell. Thanks for being attracted to us, Mollah!

Benefits of the Human genome project consist of:
Molecular Medicine
Improved diagnosis of disease
Earlier detection of genetic predispositions to disease
Rational drug design
Gene therapy and control systems for drugs
Pharmacogenomics "custom drugs"
Energy and Environmental Applications
Use microbial genomics research to create new energy sources (biofuels)
Use microbial genomics research to develop environmental monitoring techniques to detect pollutants
Use microbial genomics research for safe, efficient environmental remediation
Use microbial genomics research for carbon sequestration
Risk Assessment
Assess health damage and risks caused by radiation exposure, including low-dose exposures
Assess health damage and risks caused by exposure to mutagenic chemicals and cancer-causing toxins
Reduce the likelihood of heritable mutations
Bioarchaeology, Anthropology, Evolution, and Human Migration
Study evolution through germline mutations in lineages
Study migration of different population groups based on female genetic inheritance
Study mutations on the Y chromosome to trace lineage and migration of males
Compare breakpoints in the evolution of mutations with ages of populations and historical events
DNA Forensics (Identification)
Identify potential suspects whose DNA may match evidence left at crime scenes
Exonerate persons wrongly accused of crimes
Identify crime and catastrophe victims
Establish paternity and other family relationships
Identify endangered and protected species as an aid to wildlife officials (could be used for prosecuting poachers)
Detect bacteria and other organisms that may pollute air, water, soil, and food
Match organ donors with recipients in transplant programs
Determine pedigree for seed or livestock breeds
Authenticate consumables such as caviar and wine
Agriculture, Livestock Breeding, and Bioprocessing
Disease-, insect-, and drought-resistant crops
Healthier, more productive, disease-resistant farm animals
More nutritious produce
Biopesticides
Edible vaccines incorporated into food products
New environmental cleanup uses for plants like tobacco

Here is what we have so far for the poster...
Marvin the Martian (or Marvin Martian) is a fictional character appearing in the Looney Tunes cartoons. Marvin's likeness appears in miniature on both the Spirit and Opportunity rovers on Mars.
Bioinformatics and HGP
One of the tools that is used to analyze the data collected during the Human Genome Project is known as MAR-Wiz. MAR-Wiz is a bioinformatics tool that analyzes DNA sequences and detects the presence of "MARs" or Matrix Attachment Regions. Bioinformatics is a section of computer science that deals with the advancement of algorithms, computational and statistical techniques, and the theory to solve formal and practical problems arising from the management and analysis of biological data.

Human genome project and computer science
The Human Genome Project (HGP) was a 13 year project that was completed in 2003. The purpose of the the project was to identify about 20,000-25,000 genes in human DNA and the sequence of the 3 billion chemical base pairs that make up human DNA. This information was then stored in databases and tools were created, and improved upon, to analize this data. Although the indentification of these genes has been completed, the analysis of this data is not yet finished. Through technological advances in the tools that analize this data we can expect to see andvances in its understanding.

Woah, that dude is old.
Look at this old man in the middle of a some what old guy and a dashing young man. Not much is known to Team Ham Mouse about this old man in the middle. His picture came up when typing "Human Genome Project Discrete Mathematics" into http://www.google.com. Further research may or may not be conducted in identifying this ancient relic of a human being. Our hypothesis is that this man was around when a higher power invented the genome back in the early days of everything, and therefore has the money to pay the toll to get to the cross roads between the human genome project and discrete mathematics.
